The Animal Signs of the
Chinese Zodiac are, no doubt, the most well known aspect of Chinese
Astrology. The Chinese Zodiac has 12 Signs, just like its Western or
Indian counterpart, and it reflects the path of the Sun through the
year, but also designates every month, day and two hour period of the day.
The
Animal sign as applied to the year of your birth, you share with all
those who belong to your 'peer group', all the ones who are of the same
age. The year-Animal signs thus mark the advent of a whole generation
and in order to work out the personal charcter of a person, we need to
draw up a full Chinese Astrology chart (4 Pillars).
| | Because all the animal signs are paired with the Five Eelements, there is a 60 year cycle of the Chinese Zodiac.
Though
every sign has its own specific Element, through out the 60 year cycle,
signs appear also in the other Elements, which greatly modifies the
character of the sign. Each sign corresponds with one of the 12
'Earthly Branches', and thus represents a certain part of the year, in
which a certain growth or decay energy reigns.
Each sign also is coupled with Yin and Yang, in such a way that Yin, or feminine signs, always come back in the zodiac as Yin, and Yang signs always as Yang.
